This update is intended for those on campus who are following the
improvements to the campus electrical utility system. Since our April
12, 2013 message, Resource Management & Planning has made significant
progress in completing campus grid integrity/emergency power projects
scheduled for completion by summer 2014 (see link below for additional
details). To ensure continuity of operations, FM has purchased several
large towable and smaller portable generators to support critical
building loads during utility interruptions, and has obtained portable
lighting systems, heat pumps, cooling units and refueling trailers for
campus emergencies.
As a reminder, while normal high-voltage system maintenance requires
periodic circuit switching, the ongoing grid integrity/emergency power
projects and building construction continue to require increased
electrical switching (moving electrical load from one circuit to another
to allow work on the de-energized or “cold” line). We will continue to
notify the campus when work is scheduled.
