SUBJECT:    Appointment of Director of Facilities Management

I am pleased to announce that Stephen Jackson has accepted the position of Director of Facilities Management at UC San Diego. This position and responsibilities are critical to the functioning of campus facilities, infrastructure and utilities. Steve is grounded in a team approach and customer service and is excited to join our University.

Steve recently completed twenty years in the Navy in various leadership roles in the facilities management area. He was stationed in San Diego for the last five years as the Director of Public Works and Construction and the Director of Engineering and Operations. In his role as Director of Public Works and Construction at Naval Base Coronado, he managed an annual operations/maintenance/facility services budget of $100 million and an annual construction budget of $350 million. In these roles he led over 200 staff in the areas of facility planning, engineering, maintenance, support services including custodial, project management and construction, environmental compliance, contracting and utility operations that included over 1300 buildings spread across eight installations.

Steve has a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Duke University where he received his commission into the U.S. Navy via the University's Reserve Officer Training Corp. During his twenty year service in the Navy, Steve completed an M.B.A. at the College of William and Mary and an M.S. degree in civil engineering from San Diego State University.
