ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO
I am pleased to announce the 15th annual UC San Diego Veterans Recognition Ceremony to honor our veterans and members of the Armed Forces. The ceremony will take place Thursday, Nov. 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in UC San Diego’s Supercomputer Center Auditorium. The event is open to the public and light refreshments will be served immediately following the celebration. The theme of this year’s ceremony is “Celebration of Abilities.” Our UC San Diego Veteran of the Year, John Cerda, will be honored and thanked for his service, and each veteran in attendance will be recognized. Gary Rossio, the former CEO of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in La Jolla and former Chair of the San Diego Veterans Coalition, will be the guest speaker. The keynote speaker will be Eric McElvenny, Troops to Engineers Program Coordinator at San Diego State University, amputee triathlete and Marine veteran. To support the recognition of veterans on campus, I am approving 90 minutes of administrative leave with pay. I ask supervisors to allow employees to attend as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required duties or patient care. Inquiries regarding the event or requests for a sign interpreter may be directed to Jan Noz, Vice Chair of the Veterans Association at UC San Diego, at (858) 534-4382 or rnoz@ucsd.edu. Join your colleagues as UC San Diego celebrates the contributions of the outstanding veterans who add so much value to our campus community.
