SUBJECT:    2014-2015 Staff Education and Development Brochure and Website

I am pleased to announce the 2014-2015 Staff Education and Development brochure and accompanying changes to the Staff Education website.

UC San Diego has demonstrated a tradition of supporting learning and development for staff, and a tradition of innovation. Both of these traditions have merged to create exciting opportunities that will enrich employees' learning experiences in the years ahead.

This year, Staff Education and Development is premiering its use of the 70:20:10 learning strategy on our campus - a strategy that reflects how, when and where people learn best in the workplace. Offerings, opportunities and resources are reflected in the brochure and on the website in line with this structure which supports learning from on-the-job experiences, from others, and from courses and reading. Staff Education and Development offers a unique spectrum of flexible learning alternatives and learning paths that are strategically designed to support employees' effectiveness and development in critical areas of competence including the UC Core Competencies (http://blink.ucsd.edu/HR/training/competencies.html). Learning and development play a vital role in our abilities to support the strategic direction of the campus.

I encourage staff to utilize Staff Education and Development to make continuous learning a priority, both for their own individual development and to improve the effectiveness of our organization. Soon, staff will receive a personal copy of the Staff Education and Development brochure. In the meantime, staff may access Staff Education and Development on the web at http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/menu/training; by e-mail at staffeducation@ucsd.edu; and by phone at (858) 534-4890.
