ALL STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Founders Celebration 2014

I invite all campus members to attend Founders Celebration 2014 to commemorate UC San Diego’s 54th anniversary on Thursday, Nov. 13, and Friday, Nov. 14.

A complete schedule of our Founders Celebration may be found at http://founders.ucsd.edu. Here is an overview of the planned activities.

Thursday, Nov. 13
Our annual Founders Symposium will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, in the Price Center East Ballroom. The event features short talks from extraordinary minds—our very own world-renowned faculty members who are conducting research that is transforming lives. You are also welcome to join us before the symposium at 4:00 p.m. at The Loft for a showcase featuring undergraduate social innovators.

Friday, Nov. 14
UC San Diego’s history will come alive during a special program, “Through Their Eyes: A Conversation with Our Chancellors,” at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 in the Price Center East Ballroom. Former Chancellors Richard Atkinson, Robert Dynes, and Marye Anne Fox will join me for a wide-ranging discussion about UC San Diego’s rise to prominence.

Our Founders Festival will take place from noon to 2:00 p.m. in Town Square. The festival will include free food, games, entertainment and affinity booths.

On the evening of Nov. 14, AS Concerts & Events will host Hullabaloo in the center of campus from 8:00 to 11:45 p.m. This undergraduate student-only event will feature large-scale carnival rides, student organization game booths and a live concert. For more information, visit http://hullabaloo.ucsd.edu. The event is free and only open to currently registered UC San Diego undergraduate students with a valid student ID.

In order to allow employees the opportunity to attend Founders Celebration events, two hours of administrative leave with pay has been approved. All managers and supervisors are encouraged to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.

If you have questions about the Founders Celebration, call Special Events and Protocol at (858) 534-6386 or email sep@ucsd.edu.

I look forward to celebrating UC San Diego’s Founders Day with you.
