ALL ACADEMICS AT UC SAN DIEGO
I am pleased to invite applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor - Research Initiatives (AVC-RI) in the Office of Research Affairs (ORA). The Associate Vice Chancellor - Research Initiatives will serve as a principal advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR). The AVC-RI will advise the VCR on the design and implementation of a strategic vision for facilitating the formation of large interdisciplinary teams that can successfully compete for extramural funding, and will provide oversight of the Research Proposal Development Services unit (RPDS). The AVC-RI will oversee the development and implementation of a strategic plan for Government Research Relations that is inclusive, well-communicated and visible to faculty and will act as ORA's liaison on the development of international agreements and relationships. The AVC-RI will also work to enhance the range of undergraduate research opportunities for UCSD students, including establishing partnerships with other campuses and with NGO and corporate partners, and to also expand participation in the Regents Scholars Research Initiative, the Clinton Global Initiative, among others. To qualify for the position of AVC-RI, the candidate must currently hold a tenured appointment in one of UC San Diego's academic departments and must possess a broad view of the research enterprise and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively across academic and administrative units. A strong record of prior administrative experience and evidence of commitment to promoting excellence in research is necessary. Candidates should also have a commitment to the UCSD Principles of Community and demonstrated success in achieving institutional diversity goals. The AVC-RI will be appointed for a five-year term, renewable following appropriate review. This appointment is part-time; the percent of effort is open to negotiation. If you would like to apply for this position, please send applications (e.g. CV, letter of introduction, or biographical summary) to Vice Chancellor Sandra Brown (sandrabrown@ucsd.edu). If you would like to nominate someone, please send your nomination to the email address above. You need not contact the individual to ascertain whether he or she is willing to be considered as a candidate. All nominees will be contacted, in confidence, to discuss their willingness to have their names put forward for consideration. Nominations and applications received by February 28, 2014 will receive full consideration. A search committee will assist with the selection process.
