I am pleased to announce the appointment, effective April 21, of Angela Fornataro McMahill, as the new Conflict of Interest (COI) Director in the Office of Research Affairs.

Angela joins us from the Research Compliance Program in UC San Diego's Health Sciences Division, where she served as director for the last six years. Prior to that, Angela directed the Clinical Trials Administrative Services and Research Compliance Office on campus; and served as UC San Diego's Healthcare Clinical Trials Operations Manager.

Angela holds a Juris Doctor degree and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She holds several compliance professional certifications including Healthcare Privacy Compliance, Healthcare Compliance, Healthcare Research Compliance, and a Clinical Research Associate certification. Angela served as Research Editor for the Law Review; received the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Techniques, Remedies and Wills; participated in the Student Honors Advisory Program for Excellence; and received a Scholastic Achievement Award during her law-school studies.

She is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association; has served as the San Diego Chapter President of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals; a member of the National Council of University Research Administrators; and a member of the Drug Information Association, among other professional organizations.

She is currently teaching the "Research Budgeting and Project Management" Professional Development Series for UC San Diego's Master of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research, and has served as an ISP Faculty Mentor in that program for several years. She is the author of numerous presentations related to clinical trials and compliance.

Ms. McMahill is extraordinarily well-qualified to direct our Conflict of Interest office, and we ask that you help welcome her to this key campus position.
