ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Updated Message from Chancellor Khosla Regarding Fires in San Diego

As numerous fires continue to burn in San Diego County, supervisors are once again reminded to be flexible as employees need to evacuate their homes and ensure the safety of their family members and pets.

At present, six fires are burning, at least 30 homes have been destroyed and thousands of people are under orders to evacuate. For up-to-date information on the fires and available resources, visit the San Diego County Emergency website at http://sdcountyemergency.com.

We are also providing campus updates on the Blink website at
http://blink.ucsd.edu.

The UC San Diego campus is not in immediate danger and remains open. Classes will continue as scheduled. The UC San Diego Health System hospitals and clinics also remain open, including the UC San Diego Regional Burn Center. The Hospital Command Center has also been activated to address the operational needs of our hospital and clinic locations throughout the region.

We are in contact with fire officials and continue to monitor the progression of the fires. As further updates are available, we will post notifications on Blink. In addition, the Triton Alert system will be activated if we need to issue emergency notifications. You are encouraged to sign up for the Triton Alert system at http://blink.ucsd.edu/safety/emergencies/campuswide/.

More information will be forthcoming, as needed, from UC San Diego Human Resources to explain resources available to our campus community.

Please stay safe.
