ACADEMIC AFFAIRS June 19, 2014
I am pleased to announce that Professor Gordon Hanson has been appointed to serve as Acting Dean of the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies from July 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014 during a well-deserved period of sabbatical for Dean Peter Cowhey. Professor Hanson holds the Pacific Economic Cooperation Chair in International Economic Relations. He is director of the Center on Emerging and Pacific Economies and has faculty positions in the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies and the Department of Economics. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a co-editor of the Review of Economics and Statistics. In 2011, Professor Hanson received the UC San Diego Chancellor's Associates Award for Excellence in Research in Social Sciences and the Humanities. He specializes in the economics of international trade, international migration, and foreign direct investment, with his current research addressing how China's economic growth has affected the US labor market, the causes and consequences of cross-border flows of highly skilled workers, and the origins of country success in global export markets. Please join me in thanking Professor Hanson for his leadership and service to IR/PS and the campus.
