I am pleased to invite applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel (AVC-AP). Reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor, the AVC-AP will serve as the senior campus official responsible for Senate and non-Senate academic appointments, promotions and advancements; all salary matters, including salary equity; academic recruitment, development and retention; faculty grievance proceedings; faculty disciplinary proceedings; and consultation on all academic personnel issues. The AVC will serve as the EVC's liaison to the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP), and the Committee on Privilege and Tenure (P&T), will represent the campus to the UC Office of the President on academic personnel and related policy issues, will collaborate with counterparts at our sister campuses, and will have oversight for the Office of Academic Personnel Services. The AVC will also work closely with academic deans and the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and others to contribute to the larger campus efforts to promote diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusiveness within the faculty. In order to qualify for the position of AVC-AP, a candidate must hold a tenured appointment, at the rank of Full Professor, in one of UC San Diego's academic departments. The AVC-AP must have demonstrable experience in handling academic file reviews objectively and fairly. The AVC-AP will be appointed for a five-year term, renewable following appropriate review. The percentage of time is open to negotiation. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Serves as the principal advisor to the EVC on academic personnel matters. 2. Oversees and manages the Senate and non-Senate academic personnel process with delegated approval authority for a range of actions and titles. 3. In coordination with the Executive Vice Chancellor, acts as liaison with the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP). 4. Assists and advises the Executive Vice Chancellor on allocation decisions for faculty FTE resources for academic units. 5. Oversees academic compensation issues, including policies related to additional compensation, development of academic salary scales and classification of academic positions. 6. Develops and oversees, in partnership with the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, programs and policies dealing with faculty recruitment, new faculty orientation, faculty advancement and retention. 7. Oversees and coordinates compliance with equal opportunity and affirmative action regulations for academic employment. 8. Oversees the faculty development, Partners Opportunity Program, HERC, and management training workshops for chairs, deans, and other academic leaders. 9. Advises on decisions related to academic personnel in matters of ethics and compliance including harassment, discrimination, and disability management. 10. Provides a leadership role in conflict resolution involving academic employees, and provides counsel on misconduct and grievance matters. In coordination with the Executive Vice Chancellor acts as the liaison with P&T. 11. Oversees and coordinates activities for collective bargaining and contract administration for academic employees. 12. Oversees prestigious award programs including the Hellman Faculty Fellows, the Regents' Professorships, Distinguished Professorships, and endowed chairs. 13. Provide leadership on the application of technology to academic personnel program processes. 14. Represent the EVC and/or the campus to the UC Office of the President on academic personnel and related policy issues. |
