ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Sun God Festival on RIMAC Field - May 3, 2015

The 33rd Annual Associated Students Sun God Festival will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015. The precise hours of the festival have not been finalized but the majority of the activities will occur during the day at RIMAC field. As many as 20,000 students may attend this event. Because of the anticipated attendance and its impact on campus, please note this date when planning events for the Spring Quarter.

A campus-wide committee called the Sun God Festival Health and Safety Task Force has been formed to evaluate and implement strategies to reduce health and safety concerns related to the festival. The task force includes faculty, staff and students. The task force has introduced significant changes to the festival, such as holding the event on a Sunday, scheduling it earlier in the Spring Quarter, and shifting the event to the daytime. It is the aim of the task force to create a safer environment while continuing the tradition of a fun and vibrant community-building celebration for UC San Diego students.

To ensure student safety, sub-committees of the task force related to education, event planning, and student conduct will be responsible for developing event policies, logistical elements, and alcohol and drug education campaigns.
