FACILITIES DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION October 12, 2015
Project Description/Locations: UC San Diego is committed to providing affordable, accessible housing for current and potential new staff, students and faculty. Construction of the Graduate and Professional Student Housing Project began September 21, 2015. This project consists of site improvements, demolition of existing buildings, the construction of five new housing structures and a parking structure. Normal hours of construction are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The completion of the project is anticipated for the fall of 2017. Immediate Street Traffic, Bike Lane, Bus Stop and Pedestrian Impacts: October 12, 2015 to October 23, 2015 A portion of Miramar Street north, adjacent to the construction site, will be closed to through traffic during this period of construction. Access to the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) will be available via Miramar Street (south entrance). The parking lot east of West Mesa Housing will be closed. Reference Map #1 via the area map link provided below. October 26, 2015 to November 9, 2015 Beginning October 26 thru November 9, Miramar Street north will be open to through traffic. A short section of roadway east of One Miramar Street Apartments will be closed to vehicular traffic. Reference Map #2 via the area map link provided below. Access to One Miramar Apartments and West Mesa Housing will be available via Miramar Street (north entrance). A portion of Miramar Street, south of ECEC, will be closed for this period of construction. All access to the ECEC should be from Miramar Street (north entrance). The ECEC main entry parking lot and the ECEC north parking lot will remain open. Reference Map #2 for parking lot locations. The shuttle will remain active during this time, however frequency of stops will be modified. Revised schedules will be posted at all Mesa Housing shuttle stops. The 1 Miramar and South Mesa stops will remain in service within the adjacent parking lots. The Central Mesa stop will remain unchanged. The Old North Mesa stop will be in operation temporarily only during this road closure event. The shuttle will be unable to make systematic connections with the SIO shuttle during this period. During construction, motorists are urged to slow down and all travelers are encouraged to give themselves more time and anticipate possible traffic delays.
