SUBJECT:    2015 UC San Diego Observance of International Women’s Day

In coordination with the campus recognition of Women’s History Month in March, we are pleased to announce the Friday, March 6, 2015 campus celebration of International Women’s Day, an opportunity to note the achievements of women, to learn about women’s experiences around the world, and to draw attention to the need for further progress toward equality.

The main event will be held in Price Center West Ballroom A on March 6. Doors will open at 1:15 p.m. and the program will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Featured speakers will be: Dr. Lianne Urada and Dr. Elizabeth Reed, Associate Professors within the Division of Global Public Health in the School of Medicine. The event will also include live spoken word and dance performances, as well as presentations that highlight women’s issues and awareness.

Additional International Women’s Day celebrations will take place throughout the week, including international student panel discussions and lunch gatherings that begin March 3 and continue through March 8, the date of International Women’s Day around the world. The campus community is also encouraged to participate in the 2015 “Make It Happen” campaign, an effort to raise awareness of this year’s international theme through social media at #makeithappenucsd. Details and a complete schedule of International Women’s Day events may be viewed at: http://iwd.ucsd.edu.

Supervisors are asked to allow staff members to attend this event, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties and patient care.

Inquiries regarding the events may be directed to Hannah Reese, (858-246-1590 or hlreese@ucsd.edu), or Paul Yunouye, (858-534-5917 or pyunouye@ucsd.edu), Co-Chairs of the Campus-wide International Women's Day Planning Committee.
