ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Kyoto Prize Laureate Edward Witten To Speak on March 18

UC San Diego is pleased to join the University of San Diego, San Diego State University and Point Loma Nazarene University in hosting the 2015 Kyoto Prize Symposium. As part of the symposium, recipients of the Kyoto Prize, Japan's highest private award for global achievement, will present lectures that are free and open to the public.

One of the world's most distinguished theoretical physicists and recipient of the 2014 Kyoto Prize in “Basic Sciences,” Edward Witten, Ph.D., will speak at UC San Diego from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, in the Price Center West Ballroom. Dr. Witten will discuss his research in theoretical physics, which has contributed to the dramatic evolution of superstring theory.

At a reception immediately following the talk, Dr. Witten will meet attendees and high school students—many from underserved areas of the region—who are invited to campus to explore the possibility of careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. For more information and to register for the free lecture, please visit www.kyotoprizeusa.org.
