OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR - April 2, 2015
The University is proposing additional revisions to the University of California Facilities Manual to incorporate guidelines for gender-inclusive practices and facilities. In May 2014, President Napolitano endorsed a recommendation from the UC Task Force and Implementation Team on LGBT Climate and Inclusion to create gender-inclusive facilities and practices in UC-owned buildings. The President's Advisory Council was charged with developing guidelines that will set the framework for the design, construction, and management of gender-inclusive facilities at the University. The guidelines were drafted through consultation with campus representatives from multiple disciplines, and are an attempt to capture and disseminate best practices. They apply to restrooms, changing rooms, and showers in UC-owned buildings. Campuses may also elect to implement these recommendations in spaces with similar safety and privacy concerns, or in non UC-owned spaces when feasible. The final version of the guidelines will become part of the UC Facilities Manual, a document that catalogs system-wide policies, procedures, and guidelines for facilities management and operations. The manual is available at: For more information please visit the UC web site at: Campus employees who wish to comment on the proposal may e-mail their comments to Paula Johnson in Policy and Records Administration at pjjohnson@ucsd.edu no later than April 9, 2015. Your comments will be compiled and presented on behalf of the campus to the President's Advisory Council.
