FACILITIES DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION May 12, 2015
ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO
Project Description/Locations: Sports Facilities began renovating and constructing an addition to the current Spanos Training Center on April 21, 2015. The Spanos Training Center is located directly west of the ICA track and field facility, just north of North Point Drive in North Campus. The project will include renovations to the northern portion of the existing facility, and a new 7,000 square foot building to the north. Normal hours of construction will be 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Construction work in North Point Lane will include trenching and utility connection on the east portion of the ‘loop.’ Modifications in construction activities could be conducted with campus approval to include some weekend activities. Construction is anticipated to be completed by mid-September 2015. Immediate Street Traffic, Bicycle and Pedestrian Impacts: Faculty, staff and students may experience additional construction traffic on North Point Drive and North Point Lane, with traffic coming from North Torrey Pines Road to the west. Signage and flagmen will be posted to allow circumnavigation of construction work. Temporary traffic control measures will be in place while lanes are narrowed at construction locations as utility connections are made. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times. Pedestrian pathways will be impacted and pedestrians may be directed to adjacent walkways during some phases of construction. The existing grass area on the north side of the facility will be closed for the duration of construction. Bicyclists are advised to stay on the west site of North Point Lane to avoid engaging construction activities.
