ACADEMIC PERSONNEL
OFFICE OF THE CHAIR - May 6, 2015
In late 2013 and early 2014, revisions to the UCSD Biography/Bibliography form were recommended by both the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP) and by the Office of Research Affairs (ORA). The goal was for candidates to more accurately categorize, and for reviewers to more easily evaluate, the different types of works being put forth by candidates in their academic review files. The revisions were accepted by the Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC) and the newly revised form and instructions were released in August 2014. After release of the revised form and instructions, the Chair of CAP began discussions with department chairs and the EVC regarding CAP’s request to have academic appointees take the next steps in formatting their Biography/Bibliography forms to be in line with the newly revised instructions.
Beginning in January 2015, draft implementation guidelines for
organizing bibliographies into subsections have been developed with
input from the department chairs, divisional deans, and their AP staff.
The implementation guidelines now are complete and are available along
with samples of the new bibliography format at the following Website: For academic review files with actions proposed for July 1, 2016, and thereafter, candidates must restructure their bibliographies into the new subsection format, choosing one of the two options presented in the implementation guidelines. Files that are not formatted into subsections will be returned to their department for revision. We are providing department, ORU, and divisional dean’s AP staff with the detailed guidelines at campus information sessions. We encourage you to discuss these changes with your departmental academic personnel staff member.
