OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR - RESEARCH June 30, 2015
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF
To encourage and support data-intensive scholarship and research on campus, we are now able to offer free co-location of your rack-mounted storage and computing equipment at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Details can be found at http://idi.ucsd.edu/colo/index.html. The new service begins on July 1 of this year. All faculty, staff, and departments now have access to one of the most energy-efficient datacenters in the UC System facility. Those hosting server equipment in offices or less energy-efficient facilities can now benefit from free use of datacenter space, with associated energy, security, and networking advantages. Current co-location customers at SDSC will see this welcome change reflected in their August bill, retroactive to July 1. We have also established an Enterprise Zone in the datacenter which provides space for any research project or industry engagement requiring a datacenter footprint. Intended for equipment owned by industry partners, this portion of the facility will be subject to SDSC's approved external rates. We are pleased to provide our scholars and researchers this value-added commitment to the continuing success of their work. If your data-intensive project would benefit from this free service, Jeff Filliez, SDSC Datacenter Manager, at jfilliez@ucsd.edu or 858-534-8368, will answer your questions and get you started.
