Announcing Director of the Center for Energy Research

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Farhat Beg as Director of the Center for Energy Research (CER http://cer.ucsd.edu/), an Organized Research Unit at UC San Diego, effective July 1, 2015. Farhat Beg is currently a Professor of Engineering Science at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, conducting research in the field of High Energy Density Science focusing on high intensity short pulse laser matter interactions, inertial confinement fusion, pulsed power driven Z-pinches and compact X-ray and neutron sources. He has served as CER's Associate Director for Academic Personnel for the past two years. He is the fellow of the American Physical Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Farrokh Najmabadi for his nine years of service as CER's director. During his tenure, Farrokh led the way for CER to make significant contributions to the Academic life of UC San Diego, including strong commitments to education and training, high quality publications, research funding, and scientific visitors over the last nine years. Please join me in thanking him for his service.
