The UC Board of Regents is currently recruiting for the 2017-2018 Student Regent. The Student Regent position includes waived university tuition and fees for a two-year period. At the time of application, a candidate for Student Regent must be an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student in good standing at one of the University’s ten campuses. The current Student Regent (Avi Oved) and Student Regent designate (Marcela Ramirez) will be hosting an open forum at UC San Diego on Thursday, January 28 to discuss the application process.
Open Forum: Lunch with Student Regents The Student Regent is a full voting member of the Board of Regents of the University of California serving a one-year term commencing July 1. As a Regent, they serve as a trustee on behalf of the people of the State of California while bringing the voice of the students to the Board. From the time of appointment as a Student Regent in July 2016, but prior to the commencement of service as a member of the Board in July 2017, the appointee holds the title “Regent - designate” and is invited to participate in all meetings of the Board and of its Committees, but without a vote. The UC Board of Regents is responsible for making decisions regarding matters ranging from student fees and financial aid, to admissions and campus development. They also appoint the University President and the ten individual campus Chancellors.
