FOR RESEARCH

OCTOBER 19, 2016

ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    UC San Diego Research Administration Training Program

I am pleased to announce the launch of the UC San Diego Research Administration Training Program. As part of the Chancellor's strategic plan, the Research Administration Training Program was developed to create a comprehensive enterprise-wide research administration educational certification program that establishes and maintains individual and organizational learning and knowledge about research administration topics, programs and systems at UC San Diego. This initiative is a cross-campus collaboration by all three Vice Chancellor areas (Health Sciences, Marines Sciences and General Campus). With special thanks to our partners in Health Sciences, this program has been able to fully integrate the former Health Sciences Research A-Z in order to provide this new offering.

This program's initial offering will be the Level 1: Basics Certificate Program. It is intended to serve research administrators who are newer to sponsored research and/or those who are looking to refresh their fundamentals. The Level 1: Basics Certificate Program is an 8-week curriculum starting Wednesday, October 26th through Wednesday, December 21st and is open to all Vice Chancellor areas. This offering covers various topics across pre-award and post-award with a diverse group of experienced instructors and is now available through UC Learning.

To register:

. Step 1: watch the brief pre-requisite video Fundamentals of Sponsored Research at UC San Diego (log in required)

. Step 2: register for Research Administration Training Program Level 1: Basics Fall 2016 (log in required)

. Step 3: if you have an National Institutes of Health (NIH) focused portfolio register for the additional courses below (log in required):

Additionally, I would like to thank all of you who attended and participated in the first Research Administrator Appreciation Event, which was held on Friday, October 7th. It was a pleasure celebrating all of the hard work and various contributions across this campus that make us the successful $1 billion a year research enterprise we are today. If you were unable to attend the event, go to the RA Appreciation Day page to see highlights from the event, view/download pictures (password: RAAD2016) and view the Appreciation Video from Principal Investigators.
