ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:      Annual Campus Lighting Review Walks

Here is an opportunity to let us know what campus lighting concerns you have.

The Annual Lighting Review Walks will take place during November and December. If you are aware of any areas of concern, please feel free to email the information to campuslightingconcerns@ucs d.edu. We ask that all concerns include specific information about the location. The walks only address exterior concerns. We review all submitted comments during the walks.

Throughout the year, if you have lighting concerns, you may (1) email the information to campuslightingconcerns@ucsd.edu (2) call Facilities Management Help Desk at (858) 534-2930 or (3) submit an online work request through Facilities Management website.

More Information:

For over 20 years, UCSD Police Department (http://police.ucsd.edu) in conjunction with CARE at the Sexual Assault Resource Center (http://sarc.ucsd.edu) have conducted the Annual Lighting Survey Walks across campus. We actually walk the entire campus reviewing for safety hazards and other potential concerns. The Lighting Review Walks are just one component of the multiple safety efforts implemented on campus every year.

Recommendations for improvement can range from new lighting fixtures to cutting/trimming trees and shrubs. As the campus has grown, so have our walks. We now have four separate walks, targeting specific areas:

1) Mesa, One Miramar and Coast housing, 2) Scripps Institute of Oceanography, 3) Residential housing on Main campus, and 4) Main campus, including the School of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Representatives from the following departments participate in the walks: Police Department, Facilities Management, Transportation Services, Auxiliary and Plant Services, Residential Life, EH&S, Housing Dining Hospitality, Campus Planning, Libraries, and CARE@SARC.
