SUBJECT:   New Interactive Campus Map Launches

UC San Diego is launching a new interactive map that will transform how people experience our campus. Called Virtual Map, the first phase of the tool can be found at http://maps.ucsd.edu/. Current features include:

  • Fully rendered 3D campus map
  • 360 degree panoramas
  • Point-to-point pedestrian directions
  • UC San Diego bike routes
  • Building information and sortable destinations such as where to find dining, ATMs and more
  • Parking information and other transportation-related information such as bike rack and electric vehicle charging locations
We are relying on the campus community to help us refine and improve the map as we move forward with implementing additional features, which will include:

  • Detailed descriptions of locations and services
  • Live campus shuttle information
  • Printing, sharing and embedding customized maps and directions
  • Parking space availability
  • Real-time bike and ADA wayfinding
  • Hillcrest Medical Center map
Many departments across campus will be working together to improve and update Virtual Map in the coming months. If you have any feedback on the map or are interested in participating in an upcoming meeting to help enhance the tool, please contact virtualmap@ucsd.edu.

The ultimate goal of this project is to retire other UC San Diego mapping tools currently in use and offer one interactive map solution for everyone.

Thank you for your assistance and we look forward to hearing from you at virtualmap@ucsd.edu!
