Appointment of Cathy Ledford as Assistant Vice Chancellor - Human Resources

I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Cathy Ledford to Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources.

Cathy provided interim HR leadership for most of 2015 and most recently since August of this year. At both times, she judiciously strengthened the HR leadership team and advanced several strategic initiatives including Onboarding, Career Tracks and Union Contract Negotiations. The strong support from the broad Human Resources organization was critical to her success.

Cathy's experience with UC San Diego spans over 36 years across Health System and Health Sciences and most recently within the VC & CFO portfolio where she assumed the role of VC&CFO Chief of Staff in 2013. This gives Cathy a deep understanding of the mission, climate and various cultures within the University. Cathy's strategic perspective, organizational acumen and solution orientation have made her the trusted partner of leaders from all over campus. This gives me great confidence in her ability to further establish the HR function as a strategic partner to the campus community at a time when attracting, developing and retaining world-class and diverse talent has never been more important.

The VC & CFO Chief of Staff role and responsibilities will be consolidated within the AVC-HR position, allowing me to still benefit from Cathy's valued advice and thought partnership.
