UC San Diego will celebrate Black History Month throughout the month of February. We encourage all faculty, staff and students to participate in this important commemoration of the history, contributions and achievements of African Americans in U.S. history. The UC San Diego Black History Month Planning Committee has put together a broad array of programs, including lectures, concerts and film screenings. This year’s theme is “Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memory.”
To view the month-long calendar of events, visit In recognition of this annual event, two hours of administrative leave with pay have been approved for employees to attend a UC San Diego Black History Month activity. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care. On behalf of the campus community, we would like to thank the members of the UC San Diego Black History Month Planning Committee for their work to coordinate these educational and celebratory campus activities.
