SUBJECT:    Retirement of Bill Haid, Registrar

It is with mixed emotions that we share the news of the retirement of Registrar, Bill Haid. Bill has served as Registrar since 2009 and will retire from his post on June 30, 2016. His career in enrollment management spans 42 years. He has served at such institutions as Arizona State University, University of New Mexico, University of Colorado Boulder, and Colorado State University prior to coming to UC San Diego.

Bill has been a progressive leader in the Registrar's office, a steady hand in Admissions and Enrollment Services, and a gifted senior manager in Student Affairs. Since his arrival at UC San Diego, Bill has brought needed leadership to the Registrar's office and important improvements in student services to the campus. He is attributed with the success of bringing eCourse and eGrades to the campus. He has modernized the delivery of transcripts and now delivers electronically more than 50% of the official transcripts ordered.

During his tenure, Bill has been the architect of the enhanced electronic transcript, a movement toward a more complete academic record with contextual information embedded for course, instructor and grade information. He has also served as co-chair of the important new Engaged Learning Tools, which includes a cutting edge Co-Curricular Record that is validated and certified by the Registrar's office and available for delivery with the student's official transcript.

Bill's latest project has been to initiate the upgrade of the degree audit system at UC San Diego. This is a major upgrade and conversion of all degree programs to operate in a new modern environment that will help students and advisors track the student's progress toward degree and, we believe, will help student graduate in a more timely manner.

Bill's leadership and talents exceed the boundaries of UC San Diego. He is the recipient of numerous accolades awarded by professional associations in the field of enrollment management. Most recently he received the prestigious American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Honorary Membership Award. He has also served as President of Rocky Mountain Association of Collegiate Registrars and has contributed several chapters to AACRAO publications.

In Bill's absence, Cindy Lyons, Senior Associate Registrar will serve as Interim Registrar. A national search for Bill's replacement will be conducted by the new Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management.

Please join me in congratulating Bill on his service to UC San Diego and his well-deserved retirement.
