SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Gilman Drive Realignment Project: Closure of P406 and Gilman Drive Traffic Switch

Project Location/Description:

Construction of the Gilman Drive realignment will be completed in early 2017. The UC San Diego project will realign Gilman Drive to facilitate connection to the future Gilman Bridge Project, which is being built by Mid-Coast Transit Constructors (MCTC). The new road design reconfigures and widens Gilman Drive between Via La Jolla Drive and Voigt Drive, provides a new four-way signalized intersection to improve campus circulation, and will allow for the connection to the future Interstate 5 (I-5)/Gilman Bridge.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

Parking lot P406 will be closed long-term effective the evening of Sunday, June 26 due to ongoing construction. Additionally, there will be intermittent traffic impacts to Gilman Drive June 27 – 29 while the next phase of construction areas and traffic control is implemented. Gilman Drive will be slightly realigned as construction improvements will continue on the south side of the road. The traffic will be switched in a phased sequence during nighttime hours. Pedestrian access will be available at all times on the north side of the road as shown in the graphic linked below. Motorists are urged to slow down in the area and all travelers are encouraged to anticipate possible traffic delays.
