ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Avoid I-5/Genesee Avenue Interchange June 17-26

Motorists are being urged to steer clear of the Interstate 5/Genesee Avenue interchange from June 17-26. During this time, crews will build new freeway on- and off-ramps and move traffic onto the newly constructed north side of the bridge. The work, part of ongoing improvements to the interchange, is being managed by Caltrans.

What to expect:

· Reduced lanes during the day and intermittent lane closures at night on Genesee Avenue between Science Center Drive and Scripps Hospital.
· Intermittent daytime and nighttime closures of the on- and off-ramps to I-5 from June 24-26.
· Demolition of the old Genesee Avenue Bridge and construction on the second half of the new structure will begin once traffic has been switched.
· Detours will be in place, but motorists and bicyclists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible during this work.

To view the schedule of planned closures and associated detours, visit http://www.KeepSanDiegoMoving.com/Genesee. To plan your commute and find alternate routes, visit http://www.ShiftSanDiego.com, a resource created by the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and Caltrans to help travelers navigate through construction areas.
