SUBJECT:   CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Gilman Bridge Project

Project Location/Description:

As of September 1, 2016, SANDAG (San Diego Association of Governments) will commence construction of the Gilman Bridge. The bridge will cross Interstate 5 and connect Gilman Drive and Medical Center Drive. This project will improve campus circulation and allow for direct access between the La Jolla Medical Center and UC San Diego Campus. Construction of the Gilman Bridge is expected to open for public access during the fall of 2018.

Immediate Parking, Street, and Pedestrian Impacts:

The Southwest corner of Medical Center Drive near the ECOB building will continue to be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians to allow for construction activity. Parking lot P406 will continue to be closed as well. Construction material staging areas will be established along the west and eastern sides of the bridge construction area. Construction access to the east side of the bridge will occur from Medical Center Drive and construction access to the west side will occur from Villa La Jolla Drive. Daily construction activities may include flaggers as needed to mitigate traffic impacts in the area. Intermittent street and pedestrian impacts will take place as construction continues however, every effort will be made to mitigate the impacts and develop temporary accommodations for the public.
