OFFICE OF THE URBAN STUDIES AND PLANNING PROGRAM November 20, 2017
The Dean of Social Sciences along with the Urban Studies and Planning Program with pleasure announce the launch of a new Real Estate and Development (RED) minor beginning Winter Quarter 2018! Housed within the Urban Studies and Planning Program, the RED minor offers a new and innovative 21st century approach to the field in response to the future needs of real estate and development around the world. It recognizes that the next generation of real estate and development innovators will need hybrid skills in order to understand the nexus between real estate finance and development, data visualization and analysis, urban planning and design, sustainability, demographic trends, and new technologies. It recognizes the importance of supplementing classroom instruction with professional development opportunities and uses the San Diego-Tijuana city-region as a living laboratory for hands-on, project-based learning. Two new RED courses will be offered in the Winter Quarter. USP 5, Introduction to the Real Estate and Development Process, introduces students to the terminology, concepts, and basic practices of real estate finance and development. USP 150, Real Estate and Development Law and Regulation, reviews the legal issues, processes and institutions involved in real estate. Both courses are being taught by distinguished practitioners in the field of Real Estate and Development. Three additional new RED courses will be offered in the Spring Quarter. The USP Program will also offer a new Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Development beginning in Fall Quarter 2018.
