SUBJECT: | CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Miramar Street and Athena Circle Improvements |
Project Description/Location:
The Miramar Street and Athena Circle Improvements project will begin
construction in early January 2018, with an expected completion of
November 2018. The project will create a vehicular connection between
Miramar Street and Athena Circle and provide an internal vehicular
campus route between the Mesa Housing neighborhood and the Science
Research Park on the East Campus. The project scope includes the
widening of the Miramar Street from Regents Road intersection to the
Nuevo West Housing project. Utility infrastructure improvements will be
made to support existing and future housing development at Mesa Housing,
including water, sewer, reclaimed water, storm drain, gas, electrical
and telecommunications.
Immediate Street Traffic, Bicycle Lane and Pedestrian Impacts:
Miramar Street:
Miramar Street will remain open during construction with temporary road
realignments and detouring of traffic. Vehicular, pedestrian and
bicycle traffic will be phased throughout construction to minimize
impacts and signage will be posted as construction areas are modified.
Athena Circle:
The southern portion of Athena Circle will be a temporarily closed to
vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic from Regents Road. Access to
the UC San Diego Medical Center will be detoured to Health Sciences
Drive during construction. Pedestrian and bicycle paths of travel will
remain open, but will be modified periodically throughout construction
to minimize impacts. Signage will be posted as construction areas are
modified.
Parking Lot P782:
P782 will remain open during construction and will remain accessible
from Athena Circle. There will be intermittent impacts to specific
parking spaces located in the southwestern portion of the parking lot
during construction.
