ALL SENATE FACULTY MEMBERS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Course Development and Instructional Improvement Program (CDIIP)

I am pleased to announce the 2017-18 Course Development and Instructional Improvement Program (CDIIP).

CDIIP provides funding to support faculty projects that enhance undergraduate instruction. Awards are available in three forms:

* $100K for small individual ($2K-$5K) or modest team (<$25K) projects
* $100K allocation for the development of hybrid or online courses
* $100K allocation from the UCOP Innovative Learning and Technology Initiative (ILTI) for the development of one or more courses available entirely online.

Awards are made in the form of grants to cover expenses including, but not limited to, faculty release time, faculty summer support, summer graduate student support, support for Educational Technology Services or other technical assistance, materials, or other justifiable expenses.

Proposals are reviewed by the CDIIP Committee. The CDIIP Committee aims to select projects with potential to have a broad impact improving the quality of undergraduate education, time to degree, and interactions between faculty and students especially at the lower division level.

Faculty members are encouraged to develop projects with comprehensive strategies to improve undergraduate instruction in collaboration with their departments or academic units, the Teaching + Learning Commons, and the Office for Online and Technology Enhanced Education, as appropriate.

We especially encourage proposals that address the varied needs and perspectives of our diverse student population. Additionally, innovative proposals with new instructional technologies, including the development of online, hybrid, or flipped courses are welcomed.

Application criteria:

* Full-time Senate faculty who are engaged in undergraduate education are eligible to submit proposals.

* Applications must include plans for assessing student learning outcomes and for sustaining the project efforts beyond the duration of the grant.

* A progress report for each award is due June 15, 2017.

Applications are due April 3, 2017 and can be found online at: https://academica ffairs.ucsd.edu/evc/cdiip.html

Awards will be announced at the end of May 2017. Funds will be available beginning July 1, 2017.

Please contact Barbara Sawrey, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Dean of Undergraduate Education (AVCDUE@ucsd.edu), for questions regarding the CDIIP.
