ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:   Support for Those Affected by Recent La Jolla Shootings

As part of the greater San Diego community, UC San Diego grieves for the victims of Sunday’s nearby shooting.

Though none of those directly hurt is associated with UC San Diego, many within our campus community are impacted and understandably shaken due to the proximity and nature of the violence. Though the perpetrator is no longer a threat, and per the San Diego Police Department, he had no co-conspirators, for some of our faculty, staff, and students, this incident may create tension or accentuate existing concerns.

I take this opportunity to remind our campus of the support services available to those affected by this tragic event.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides mental health support for students. To contact CAPS, please call 858-534-3755 or visit them in room 190 of Galbraith Hall.

For campus staff and faculty, the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) offers one-on-one counseling sessions. Contact FSAP at 858-534-5523.

Health Systems staff and faculty are encouraged to call Optum Behavioral Health at 888-866-6205 for individual assistance.

It is important for us to demonstrate compassion toward each other during moments such as these. If you know a member of our campus community who may be experiencing distress, please share with them the resources listed above.
