SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT: Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project: Campus Point Drive and Voigt Column Construction – UPDATED MTS Super Loop Information

Project Location/Description:

Column construction at the intersection of Campus Point Drive and Voigt Drive is scheduled to take place beginning May 3rd and continuing through May 15th, pending unforeseen delays. The project team will install one column in the center median of Campus Point Drive and a second column in the eastbound lanes and sidewalk of Voigt Drive near the entrance to parking lot P703. In an effort to minimize confusion and alleviate traffic congestion during peak travel times, nighttime work will be performed and construction sequencing will be used.

Updated Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

Due to Mid-Coast construction, Super Loop Routes 201/202 must be moved off Campus Point Drive and Medical Center Drive North effective on Wednesday, May 3 at 8:00 p.m. The detour is expected to last approximately two years.

The detour paths will be:

Route 201
From WB Health Sciences Dr:
Right: Voigt Dr
Left: Voigt Dr
Resume current routing

Route 202
From EB Voigt Dr:
Right: Voigt Dr
Left: Health Sciences Dr
Resume current routing

The new, temporary stop locations (replacing the Medical Center Drive North/Shiley Eye Center station pair) will be on both sides of Health Sciences Drive just east of Voigt Drive. This site is approximately 700 feet east of the walk path entrance to the UCSD medical complex located at Health Sciences Drive/Medical Center Drive North.

Please be reminded that Campus Point Drive will be re-striped and modifications to the traffic signal will be made to accommodate construction activities. Traffic conditions will intermittently change during the process to accommodate construction activities. Please be aware of changing conditions. Expect to experience a flashing red signal during the weekends and intermittently from 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. A construction flagging crew will be actively managing traffic flow during times of transition.

Traffic lanes will be narrowed and the dedicated bike lanes will be removed and replaced with marked shared vehicle/bicycle lanes. Pedestrian access along Campus Point Drive and Voigt Drive will remain available.

Alternate Routes: Use Health Sciences Drive and Athena Way as alternate routes to and from the Medical Center.
