| SUBJECT: | Call for Nominations and Applications – Dean of Undergraduate Education |
I am pleased to invite nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Undergraduate Education from candidates internal to the University of California system and others with significant University of California experience. UC San Diego Executive Recruitment Services will provide assistance with the search process, and Professor James Nieh (Ecology, Behavior and Evolution) has agreed to chair the Search Advisory Committee (committee membership listed below).
The Dean of Undergraduate Education reports directly to the Executive
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and is responsible for providing
academic leadership in the development, enhancement, and delivery of
undergraduate academic programs—including new interdisciplinary programs
across colleges, divisions, schools, and disciplines. The Dean promotes
curriculum innovation and reform and strengthens academic support
services for undergraduate students. The new Dean will be appointed to
serve at 100% time for a five-year term, renewable following appropriate
review. Qualified candidates will have a distinguished record in
teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the expectations of a
tenured appointment in one of UC San Diego's academic departments
(Ladder-rank or LSOE series). Additional details regarding the position
