SUBJECT:    New Academic Integrity Administrative Sanctioning Guidelines

Academic Integrity is a core principle of the University of California San Diego - it is essential to our excellence.

The Policy on Integrity of Scholarship – found online at
http://senate.ucsd.edu/Operating-Procedures/Senate-Manual/Appendices/2 – serves as the guiding policy and procedural document for handling violations of academic integrity in UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate courses. Faculty are expected to report any suspected academic integrity violations to the Academic Integrity Office and those students who are responsible for academic integrity violations are given administrative and academic sanctions.

Beginning on September 25th, 2017 UC San Diego will use new Administrative Sanctioning Guidelines (“Guidelines”) to respond to academic integrity violations. The Guidelines were developed by a working group composed of faculty, students and administration and approved by the College Provosts & Deans of Student Affairs, the Dean of Undergraduate Education, Dean of Graduate Division, and Academic Senate. The Guidelines create a structured, consistent and educational response to integrity violations and provide students and faculty an indication of likely sanctions to occur while still allowing for professional judgment by our professional administrators. The new Guidelines can be found at
http://academicintegrity.ucsd.edu/process/consequences/sanctioning-guidelines.html.

For more information on academic integrity, please visit the Academic Integrity Office at 301 University Center (Room 115), call 858-822-2163, email at aio@ucsd.edu, or visit the website at http://academicintegrity.ucsd.edu. The Academic Integrity Office offers academic integrity training and support to students, faculty and staff at UC San Diego and can be scheduled for presentations, workshops or 1:1 consultations.
