SUBJECT:    Inclusive Excellence @ UC San Diego: 2018 Progress Update

As part of UC San Diego’s commitment to creating the most inclusive experience possible for every member of our campus community, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (VC-EDI) is proud to announce the launch of our 2018 Progress Update. This update is our way of sharing some of our most exciting diversity developments. Subsequent updates will be published every two years, with the next expected in 2020.

The 2018 Progress Report can be found on the VC-EDI website, at

We invite you to explore the positive momentum our campus has experienced in recent years, and to learn more about all of the programs, policies, and people working every day to make UC San Diego a place where all can thrive. A place where women principal investigators brought in roughly 70% of all research funds last year, and the number of first-year students from underrepresented groups has more than doubled since 2012.

Faculty, staff, and students all benefit from the collective genius of a diverse university, and we are committed to making ours the best possible environment for living, learning, and working. An environment that celebrates and incorporates the lessons that can come from the widest possible range of backgrounds, experiences, and abilities.

As we prepare to finalize our campus-wide Strategic Plan for Inclusive Excellence—a framework to shape the future of equity, diversity, and inclusion on campus—we hope that this progress update provides a snapshot of how far we’ve come, as well as insight into how far we can go. Together, we can seize this moment of opportunity to create a truly transformative campus culture.

Thank you for your help in propelling UC San Diego into an even brighter future.
