ACADEMIC AFFAIRS November 19, 2018
ALL SENATE FACULTY
Dear Colleagues, I am writing to provide you with information about the Triton Research and Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS) program. This program is a collaboration between the six undergraduate colleges, Academic Affairs, and the Academic Enrichment Program. TRELS is designed to increase the number of students involved in research, mentored projects, community service, and study abroad opportunities. We are especially interested in providing opportunities to students who come from diverse backgrounds. We also hope to support students working in diverse fields of study. There are several ways that you can become involved in this project: * Mentor a student: If you know a student who may be interested in a mentored opportunity, you can help them find a project and encourage them to apply for the program. The Fall Quarter deadline was November 13, but applications are accepted during weeks 3-4 of each quarter for an award during the following quarter. Awards include a $1000 stipend per quarter (some of this may be used to offset project expenses). There are also summer opportunities with a $5000 stipend. * Volunteer to review applications: College Provosts are seeking faculty members to review applications. For the current application period, colleges have received between 6 and 12 applications. Please contact your provost if you are interested in reviewing now or in the future. * Teach a seminar: The Colleges would like to offer research methods seminars in a variety of fields. You might teach a seminar yourself (with a research stipend compensation) or you could mentor a graduate Associate-In. * Serve on the TRELS advisory committee Please contact Provost Leslie Carver (ljcarver@ucsd.edu) with any questions.
