ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Parking Rate Changes

Rates for most employee parking on the UC San Diego Campus will change in
January. UC San Diego faculty and staff may experience parking permit price
changes at different times based on the specific products they purchase, the
means of payment, and the bargaining unit they belong to. Most biweekly payroll
deduction customers will experience the change on January 23rd while most
monthly payroll deduction customers will experience the change on January 2nd.
To determine exactly when you will experience the new prices, please view the
summary at http://transportation.ucsd.edu/parking/permits/index.html.

If you purchase parking, you should have received a message from Transportation
Services at the beginning of December detailing when you can expect to
experience a rate change and the new price of your parking products. If you did
not receive an individualized message, please check your spam quarantine
(http://spam.ucsd.edu) and junk mail folder.

In most cases, the cost of parking is increasing by just $0.25 per working day.

This is UC San Diego’s first increase to parking permit rates in more than a
decade and is necessary to support increased operational costs along with the
development of new parking facilities. In the last six months, Transportation
Services has opened more than 1,700 new parking spaces, with a net gain of over
700 spaces when considering surface lots that are being redeveloped. We have
another 2,400 stalls in construction currently and several thousand more in
planning and design. This incremental increase in parking fees will help
service debt on these facilities while maintaining and modernizing existing
facilities.

Before proposing changes to the price of permit parking, Transportation Services
committed to a range of efficiency measures that will reduce long term operating
costs. Visitor and student parking rates were also adjusted during summer
quarter.
