SUBJECT:    Call for Nominations: Senior Associate Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs (Sr. AVC-AA)

I am pleased to invite internal applications and nominations for the position of Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Sr. AVC-AA). The scope of this position will merge many of the responsibilities of the current Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning and Resources (currently Dr. William Hodgkiss) with some of the responsibilities of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel (currently Dr. Tamara Wall).

The Sr. AVC-AA will oversee and manage the Senate and non-Senate academic personnel process with delegated approval authority for a range of actions. In coordination with the EVC, this person will serve as the primary liaison with the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP). The incumbent will also administer the planning and implementation of new campus academic programs and initiatives, providing leadership in the evaluation of resource needs to meet programmatic and capital program goals, including the use of technology-enhanced instructional tools and learning management systems. This includes review, with the EVC, of administrative processes to ensure they appropriately support the university’s academic priorities. The Sr. AVC-AA will lead significant academic projects and initiatives impacting multiple divisions within the General Campus or academic divisions across campus.

In order to qualify for the position of Sr. AVC-AA, a candidate must hold a tenured appointment in one of UC San Diego's academic units. The Sr. AVC-AA will be appointed for a five-year term, renewable following appropriate review. Percentage of time will be 100%.
