SUBJECT:    Faculty Mediation Training in June

The Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion is offering mediation training to a new cohort of faculty mediators. The 40-hour training will be held on main campus, June 18-22, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily.

This skill-building course, provided by the National Conflict Resolution Center, will introduce faculty to effective mediation techniques through a combination of lectures, simulations and participatory exercises. The curriculum meets the standards of the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act. Here are just a few comments from last year’s faculty participants:

· “Life transforming. I learned such transformative skills to use all the time, not just in mediation but to help address issues before they arise to the level of mediation.”

· “Wonderful experiential learning experience. Exhausting but highly rewarding. Great mediator role models.”

· “This was the most effective, useful training I have ever attended! Not only can I use it in conflict resolution, but there are life skills that I can use!”

Interested faculty should complete a short online form no later than April 20, 2018: https://goo.gl/forms/mkFwmqzJeh7rcd5C3.

Faculty of all ranks and disciplines are welcome, but priority will be given to Associate and Full Professors, and/or Teaching and Clinical Professor equivalents. To be considered, faculty must be able to complete the 40-hour training.

The Faculty Peer Mediation Program was launched in January to help faculty resolve interpersonal conflicts through a collegial, informal and confidential process. For questions about the mediation training or program, please contact MarDestinee Perez at m3perez@ucsd.edu or 858-246-1923.
