SUBJECT:    Call for Nominations and Applications – Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

A national search for a new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) is now commencing, and we are pleased to invite nominations and applications for the position.

The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) is the campus’ chief student affairs officer, providing executive-level leadership and vision for a comprehensive range of initiatives, services and policies assuring an extraordinary student experience at UC San Diego. The position reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Chancellor. The VCSA serves as a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet, working in close collaboration with academic and administrative Vice Chancellors and with the Academic Senate to support the vision and advance the mission of UC San Diego. Successful candidates will be energetic, innovative, student-focused professionals who can facilitate change, build cooperative networks, generate synergies and work collaboratively within and across departmental lines. The ideal candidate will have substantial progressive executive and managerial experience in a student affairs administration portfolio, with particular expertise in the areas of improving student life, wellbeing, and the student experience, and in integration of efforts throughout the entire student pathway, from matriculation to commencement and beyond.

The membership of the Search Advisory Committee, which is chaired by Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Becky Petitt, is listed below. The Search Advisory Committee is charged with conducting a national search, identifying and presenting suitable candidates for interview by the Committee, and helping to develop a short list of diverse, qualified candidates who will be invited to visit the campus. We will solicit and consider input from everyone who participates in the selection process and will make the final determination about the successful candidate.

The Search Advisory Committee will begin reviewing candidate materials in May and will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applicant materials should be received by May 4, 2018. The Greenwood/Asher and Associates search firm has been engaged to assist with this important recruitment. Individuals who wish to nominate a candidate should submit a letter of nomination including contact information for the nominee. Application materials should include a letter addressing how the candidate’s experiences match the position requirements, a curriculum vitae or resume, a diversity statement (See Contributions to Diversity: https://go.ucsd.edu/2vsGKEj for additional information), and five references.
