ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    UC San Diego's Celebration of César E. Chávez Month

Faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in UC San Diego's month-long celebration of César E. Chávez, which is held to honor and recognize the life and achievements of the civil rights champion. Festivities will include a variety of events that celebrate Chavez’s commitment to social justice, education and service. The celebration features a kickoff luncheon and awards ceremony, film screenings, lectures, and a tour of the border region. This year’s celebration theme is “United, Resistant & Unafraid” and is inspired by the Chavez quote: “You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.”

To view the month-long calendar of events, visit:
http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/chavez. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

In recognition of this annual event, two hours of administrative leave with pay have been approved for employees to attend a UC San Diego César E. Chávez Celebration event. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

We offer our sincere thanks to the UC San Diego César E. Chávez Planning Committee, whose hard work and dedication have made this celebration possible. Please join us as we commemorate the legacy and contributions of César E. Chávez.
