CARE AT THE SEXUAL ASSAULT RESOURCE CENTER October 25, 2019
Help us light the UC San Diego community! Here is an opportunity to let us know what campus lighting concerns you have. The Annual Lighting Review Walks will take place during November and December. If you are aware of any areas of concern, please email the information to campuslightingconcerns@ucsd.edu. We ask that all concerns include specific information about the location. The walks will address only exterior concerns, and we review all submitted comments during the walks.
Throughout the year, if you have lighting concerns, you may: For over 20 years, Environment, Health, and Safety, Facilities Management, and the UC San Diego Police Department, in conjunction with CARE at the Sexual Assault Resource Center, have conducted the Annual Lighting Survey Walks across campus. Teams walk the entire campus searching for possible safety hazards and other potential concerns. The Lighting Review Walks are just one component of the multiple safety efforts implemented on campus every year.
Recommendations for improvement can range from new lighting fixtures to
cutting/trimming trees and shrubs. As the campus has grown, so have our
walks. We now have four separate walks, targeting specific areas: Representatives from the following UC San Diego departments participate in the walks: Environment, Health and Safety, the Police Department, Facilities Management, Transportation Services, Auxiliary and Plant Services, Residential Life, Housing Dining Hospitality, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Campus Planning, Libraries, and CARE@SARC. Please submit your lighting concerns to campuslightingconcerns@ucsd.edu by November 4 to ensure they are addressed during the upcoming Annual Lighting Review Walks.
