CAPITAL PROGRAM MANAGEMENT November 18, 2019
Project Location/Description: Initial construction for the Voigt Drive Improvements and Campus Point Drive Realignment Project begins in mid-November, with evening closures November 20 and 21, 2019. Activities will include extending the current fenced construction staging areas, the demolition of existing parking lots, sidewalks, vegetation, and underground utilities. The reconfiguration of existing vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle routes will ensure the safety of all travelers for the 8-month duration of Phase 1, as well as future phases through 2021. Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts: Voigt Drive, between Campus Point Drive and the Voigt Bridge will be closed November 20 and 21 between 9:00pm and 5:00am. Vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians will be detoured around the construction area using Campus Point Drive, Medical Center Drive, the new Gilman Bridge, and Gilman Drive. The Scripps Hospital and parking lot P701 will remain accessible at all times during construction hours. Emergency vehicles will have full access along Voigt Drive during construction hours. Flaggers will be present at both entrances of the construction area to help manage the emergency vehicle traffic and safely escort them through the construction site. In an effort to provide advanced notice to frequent travelers of the area, large electrical messaging boards will be placed along Voigt Drive one week in advance of the work, confirming the dates and times of the closures. Evening work and construction sequencing will occur in an effort to minimize confusion and alleviate traffic congestion during peak travel times.
