SUBJECT: | April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month |
April is designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).
Sexual assault is an issue that affects our entire community. The goal
of SAAM is to raise awareness about sexual violence and to educate
communities and individuals about their role in prevention. SAAM has
been recognized at UC San Diego since 2007 with efforts led by CARE at
the Sexual Assault Resource Center and campus partners.
Some of the key dates and events during SAAM include:
*April 3: National Day of Action
*April 5: SAAM at the International Friday Café, 12:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.,
Great Hall
*April 9: Centering Women of Color Survivors of Sexual Violence: A Panel
Discussion featuring Dr. Jessica Harris, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.,
Cross-Cultural Center Comunidad Room
*April 24: Denim Day, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Women’s Center
*April 25: Take Back the Night featuring Sofie Karasek, 6:30 p.m. – 9:00

In recognition of SAAM, one hour of administrative leave with pay has
been approved so that employees may attend a Sexual Assault Awareness
Month event. Supervisors are asked to allow employees one hour of
administrative leave with pay to participate in Sexual Assault Awareness
Month activities, so long as the absence does not infringe upon the
performance of required job duties or patient care.
SAAM key events are organized and supported by a number of organizations
and departments. For more information and the full calendar of events and
sponsors, please visit http://saam.ucsd.edu and follow @ucsdcare on
