OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR FOR RESEARCH

April 16, 2019

ALL ACADEMICS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Seed Funds for Australia University Collaborations

Two new programs will seed collaborative research and support
binational teams in their efforts to pursue extramural funding.

The Office of Research Affairs (ORA) and the Office of International
Affairs (OIA) are pleased to launch strategic partnerships with Monash
University and the University of Sydney. One-time, non-renewable seed
funding is available to support innovative joint initiatives with
investigators at both universities.

Building on mutual strengths, seed funds will catalyze new efforts as
well as position binational teams to pursue private and federal
support for collaborative research programs.

Funds are open to faculty and researchers in all disciplines.
All proposals must include a UC San Diego PI and PI from the partner
institution. Awards will be jointly reviewed and funded, with
approximately 15 grants of $20-30K each. Funds are intended to support
planning, development, and proof-of-concept activities. Activities
that develop new research links, support student mobility, or expand
existing collaborations are welcome. Multidisciplinary projects are
encouraged.

Applications for both programs will open shortly and be due in
mid-May, with funding to be available as early as this summer. For
