ALL SENATE FACULTY MEMBERS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Changemaker Faculty Fellows Program

We are pleased to announce the inaugural 2019-2020 Changemaker Faculty Fellows Program developed as a collaboration between the Teaching + Learning Commons and the Center for Student Involvement, with the support of the Changemaker Steering Committee. As an Ashoka U-designated Changemaker Campus, UC San Diego recognizes the value of community engaged service-learning in developing students and faculty as leaders in social innovation and changemaking.

The purpose of the Fellowship is to support faculty who integrate community engaged service-learning (CESL) into their teaching, research, and public service at UC San Diego, and serve as campus leaders in CESL pedagogy and community engagement. The Changemaker Faculty Fellows Program develops a community of faculty engaged in CESL, and funds projects to enhance existing or develop a new CESL courses. Proposed projects may focus on:
-Integration of CESL into a new or existing course
-Development of assessment tools or strategies for measuring the impact of CESL courses on undergraduate learning outcomes, faculty, or the community, or
-Community-based course research projects that contribute to service-learning, civic engagement, and scholarship of engagement literature, or that expand understanding of CESL within a discipline.

The program is currently open to all full-time senate UC San Diego faculty members with an interest in CESL. We encourage individual faculty and interdisciplinary teams to apply for the Fellowship. Awards are in the amount of $10,000 for one academic year to support the development and implementation of a CESL project. Funds may be used toward project implementation, or to provide additional professional development support for participants.

Program requirements:
In addition to implementation of a CESL project, selected Changemaker Faculty Fellows are expected to actively engage with the Changemaker Faculty Fellows learning community through participation in a Faculty Fellows retreat and regular meetings, and to demonstrate leadership as mentors to future Fellows.

Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2019. Fellows will be selected and notified by June 7, 2019. Applicants should submit an application form including a project proposal and letter of support from their Chair or Dean.
