SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project: Temporary Road Closures on Gilman Drive, south of Voigt and P701

Project Location/Description:

Construction activities for the Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project are
continuing with the construction of the elevated Light Rail trolley
track throughout campus. The project team is currently removing the
falsework (temporary wooden and steel support structures) which reveals
the permanent concrete viaduct. The last remaining sections of falsework
on UCSD’s Campus to be removed currently span over Gilman Drive, just
south of Voigt Drive, and the P701 parking lot entrance.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

On June 17, 2019, Gilman Drive, just south of Voigt Drive, will be
temporarily closed for one night from 12:00 midnight to 2:00 a.m. During
this closure, vehicles and bicycles will be detoured through Campus via
Voigt Drive, Campus Point Drive, Medical Center Drive, and the new
Gilman Bridge. Pedestrians will be detoured through the Sixth College
community.

Emergency Vehicles will be given special access through construction
areas at all times, as indicated on the map.

In an effort to minimize confusion and alleviate traffic congestion
during peak travel times, nighttime work and construction sequencing
have been carefully incorporated in the construction effort. Large
electrical messaging boards will be placed in the locations of the
closures 1 week in advance to confirm the dates of the closures.
