CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Sixth College- Construction of new Design & Innovation Building

Project Location/Description:

Construction begins July 1, 2019 for the new Design and Innovation
Building located in the Sixth College Neighborhood, with completion
targeted for March 2021. DIB will be located directly south of the
existing Structural and Materials Engineering Building and north of the
future Light Rail Transit Station Plaza. The new building is anticipated
to include space for multidisciplinary instruction, research, innovation
and entrepreneurism, offices, and retail, with a gross square footage of
approximately 74,000 square feet.

Immediate Street Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts:

Russell and Lyman Lanes will remain open to vehicular, bicycle and
pedestrian traffic throughout construction. Vehicular and bicycle
traffic on Russell Lane should expect intermittent delays due to
construction vehicle traffic and travelers should proceed with caution
and be aware of signage. Flaggers will be present at the intersection of
Rupertus Lane to redirect traffic, if necessary. The portion of Lyman
Lane, between Russell and Artists Lanes, will remain permanently closed
to accommodate the new building area. Pedestrian access will be
identified by plastic k-rail delineators. Please be aware of your
surroundings in the area and view posted signage for any pertinent
pedestrian detours.

Due to the project location, the temporary construction site fencing
will be located along the southern face of the Structural and Materials
Engineering Building. Pedestrian access to the SME building will be
limited to the north and west entrances. The southern access doors will
be closed, but available for emergency egress.
